Seth Godin, the best-selling author of twelve books, has “Go Make Something Happen,” right on the homepage of his website.

Dan Kennedy, in a recent issue of his No B.S. Marketing Letter, says “…nobody gets to goals via straight lines; everybody zig-zags – but you can’t zig or zag if you’re standing still. Hell, I don’t know where to start. I usually start somewhere by doing something.”

And that’s the problem with most small business owners and entrepreneurs; they get paralyzed and don’t do anything. They want their plans to be perfect and clearly laid out before taking action. While this is a sound strategy for a project that will require significant capital, it is not for most other business activities.

So here are nine “somethings” you can do this weekend to make something actually happen.

  1. Put up 3-5 Facebook ads targeting the same demographics and directing the prospect to the same landing page. Tweak the headline, text and image in each ad and set your budget to $5 per ad per day for one week. Once you see which ad has the most clicks, start split testing your landing pages.
  2. Order Thanksgiving cards to send to your clients thanking them for their business and bribe them with a special offer to give you more.
  3. Write and post a new blog entry.
  4. Create a Facebook Fan Page or hire someone to do it for you.
  5. Create an 8-12 page special report that would be of interest to your target market.
  6. Create an opt-in form on your website and offer the free report from #5 as an incentive to sign up.
  7. Start writing a book without an outline; just let your thoughts flow onto paper.
  8. Create a client referral program.
  9. Email/call/mail your inactive clients/customers/patients and ask them where they’ve been and invite them back.

What “something” are you going to do this weekend?
